Essendon Airport is located approximately 10 kilometres from Melbourne and caters for general aviation, charter and corporate jets and emergency services.
In 1921 approval was given for the establishment of a “civil” airport for Melbourne and in 1923 Essendon Airport was officially born as Melbourne Airport.
This title was transferred to Tullamarine Airport in 1966 and in 1970 international services were transferred to Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) after 19 y ears of international commercial aviation traffic.
